Abby Thiesen-Deal

Hey there! I’m Abby and I graduated from the Autumn Institute of Health in August 2026 with a Diploma of Acupuncture. I was born and raised in the Truro area and am excited to serve the community through Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
My goal for Family Acupuncture is to help patients navigate their health journeys, provide a listening ear and alleviation of symptoms. I want Family Acupuncture to be a place where patients can relax and feel better.
I was introduced to acupuncture and TCM when I was 19 years old and was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition that put me in the hospital over 70 times in just two years. I was fed up, tired and conventional medicine was not working. On my fifty-something visit to the emergency room, the attending physician suggested I go see a TCM doctor. Having already tried everything (yes, even yoga, if you know, you know), I figured, “Why not? It can’t get any worse.” Within a few acupuncture sessions, I was beginning to feel like myself again. After consistent weekly visits for acupuncture treatments, I got better! I went on to complete my degree in Bioveterinary Science with a minor in Animal Agriculture and certificate in Genetics and Molecular Biology, travel internationally and get married. I also accepted the challenge to adopt all the animals I was told I could have when I “have my own house.”
When I am not at work, I can be found hanging out with my dogs, getting coffee with my husband or somewhere in the sunshine gardening or hiking.
